-The Leader In Me Parent Corner-

fore-peopleAs we continue through our Leader In Me Journey, The Lighthouse Team will be using this section to provide some information specifically for parents about The Leader In me. Student work, book recommendations to read with your children that focus on habits, classroom displays, videos and much more will be used to help showcase the fabulous progress that our students (as well as faculty and staff) have made since our kick off in January!

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw

Screen Shot 2015-04-05 at 7.56.24 PM“Sharpen the Saw”… Balance is Best!  At one point or another, we have all experienced the awfulness of burn out.  How can we avoid that feeling and keep our drive to continue working on projects, engaging with friends, etc…? By “sharpening the saw”, you commit to taking time out for yourself each day (even if just a few minutes) to take care of your mind, body and your spirit.  This can be done by spending time with friends or family, eating right and getting enough sleep, or challenging yourself to learn something new!

“Sharpen the Saw means to have balance in your life.  There is a story of a man who was sawing down a tree and not making a lot of progress.  When a passerby asked him why he didn’t stop sawing to sharpen his saw, he remarked that he was too busy sawing .  Habit 7 reminds us that we are more productive when we are in balance–body brain, heart and soul.  Just like the four tires on a car, if one area is being ignored or overused, the rest will feel the results.” Courtesy of the Leader In Me Parent Guide

All Aboard the Legacy Cruise Line: Leadership Day

banner

As part of our Leader In Me Process, we are hosting our Leadership Day on June 10th from 9:00am until approximately 10:30am. This day is a chance for us to showcase our the leadership skills that we have learned since our kick off in January.

Leadership day is a special opportunity for our school to open our doors to the community to show off the great things that are happening. Through implementing The Leader in Me process we have a built a unique environment where the principles, practices, and habits of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People® are embedded into our culture. The Leader in Me process defines our school operations, permeates instructional practice and curriculum, and is the basis of a vibrant leadership development approach for both students and staff. Attend this leadership day to be immersed in our leadership culture with presentations from students, teachers and open-house-like atmosphere.

Our Student Planning Team has chosen sail-bt1) the theme of Legacy Cruise Line.  All of the student jobs and events for that day have a cruise like theme/title to them.  Students in grades 3-8 can apply to be student leaders for that day.  K-2 your plan is coming soon!

Click below to download the application that you need.  They are due to Ms. Tierney, Ms. Turner or Ms. Foulk by 5/6.  Interviews will be conducted the following week.
